I am a Certified Advanced Creative Hypnotherapist and an Accredited NLP Practitioner.
I have run a highly successful Therapy and Life Coaching practice since 2011. During that time, I have completed over 10,000 client sessions, working one-to-one as well as with groups and teams through workshops and retreats.
My work in personal development is centred on the human being. I work with individuals, business owners, and leaders who are often experiencing stress, fear, overwhelm, limiting beliefs, imposter syndrome, depression, and anxiety caused by the pressures of modern-day living. I support them in creating sustainable, lasting change, both personally and professionally. The work I do truly nourishes my soul.
I live near Manchester in the UK with my partner. I am a mother of two grown-up sons and an avid lover of travel and nature. I enjoy hiking, going to the gym, music, dance, laughter, and riding pillion on my partner’s motorbike. I am forever curious, with a deep interest in ancient healing practices, which has evolved into my becoming a Firewalking Instructor, Shamanic and Breathwork Practitioner.

I am originally from Glasgow, Scotland. I returned to live in Scotland in June 2019, after 30 years of living in England, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In 2024, I moved to Cheshire and am now based in Greater Manchester, where I live with my partner.
I have experienced a lot in my lifetime: a corporate career spanning 40 years, from a general assistant in a supermarket to a board-level appointment with EMEA responsibility at a Fortune 500 organisation, followed by a complete career change in my mid-fifties, discovering my purpose in life through my coaching business.
That journey included two marriages and divorces, multiple redundancies, earning a Master’s degree at the age of 40 with no previous university education, and the opportunity to live and work in three European countries. The highs and lows of the road I have travelled have taken me from the darkest moments of struggle and challenge to a life of fulfilment and big dreams that I am now creating into reality.

You talk about Inner Leadership, what does that actually mean?
We have a philosophy that Inner Leadership creates outer effectiveness. Inner Leadership is your capacity to lead yourself, to manage your own thoughts, emotions and behaviours in all aspects of your life. It’s like the oxygen mask; you have to put it on yourself first before you can help others. When your inner leader is in balance, this brings clarity, harmony, strength, and courage the ripple effect of which spreads across all areas of your life.
What is the process to design a Bespoke solution for your clients?
In a 1-2-1 dynamic the first step is to meet the client, understand the issues/problem/requirements and design a therapy/coaching solution that will meet the required needs.
If it’s a team/group coaching or training requirement, then the first step after discussion with the Owner or Senior Leader, is to meet the group in an awareness session, this highlights the areas for improvement and solution design is created. Secondly the change program (s) and the investment is agreed.
Step 3 is to deliver the agreed programs supporting the client/teams/group in the transformation process.
What are the benefits of retreats that focus on leadership and wellbeing?
Being away from the workplace in a relaxed environment brings time to think and to recharge. It fosters open communication, stimulates creativity and new ideas.
What does a Roar Effect retreat look like
Each retreat is created bespoke to the needs of the business and its desired outcomes. Our retreats for individuals are designed around the wellness of body. Mind and spirit. Both types of retreat are a journey of transformation through beliefs, communication, clarity, and connection
What is firewalking and glass walking? and why do you have them in your service offering?
Firewalking and Glasswalking are 2 different empowerment activities used to overcome fears and create transformational change and are a wonderful addition to teambuilding events.
Firewalking is about high energy to match the fire, focus, movement and taking action to let go. Fire is about cleansing, purifying and renewal. It’s about stimulating your inner fire as fear steals away power and this is about claiming your power back to become fearless and confident.
Glasswalking is a completely different energy, it’s slow, steady and being 100% present with your mind/body connection. Being mindful in placing each foot down with intention, it challenges your belief systems that this is possible. It develops, self-control, courage, and trust.
Where did the name of The Roar Effect come from?
The Acronym stands for Reach each Out and Rise. ROAR was created from 3 different sources.
- The Roar of the fire, the ROAR of the lion/lioness
- For many years Julie has been teaching people to ROAR
- THE ROAR is a release of emotional stagnant energy which gets trapped. It’s so much more than a frustrated scream, it brings a deep physical, release and creates an energetic vibration that you have to shake off. It’s an incredibly powerful tool that you can use in many situations, and it creates calm, focus and clarity bringing you back to a grounded sense of self.
Can workshops and retreats make good alternatives to office socials?
Yes, they can, as they create transparent discussions and better communication on the topics that really matter in the workplace, people get the opportunity to be seen and heard outside the office environment.
How can the Roar Effect support Colleges & Universities?
Our education system, our colleges and universities provide tomorrows leaders, however we see many young people today weighed down by peer pressure, limiting belief systems and emotional vulnerabilities. Our workshops help these young people define their identities and build emotional and mental strength.
